Lithuania has sent a note of protest to Russia over the Easter shelling of civilians in Ukraine
The Lithuanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has officially lodged a note of protest with Russia regarding the terrorist campaign against the Ukrainian civilian population during the Easter holidays. The Lithuanian diplomatic agency emphasized that targeted attacks on markets and bus stops where civilians are present constitute war crimes.
This was reported by the Lithuanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The official statement notes that such actions by the aggressor state grossly violate the norms of international law and require an immediate response from the international community. Lithuania was one of the first countries to formally register its protest against the latest wave of violence by the Russian Federation aimed at destabilizing the humanitarian situation in Ukraine during religious holidays. Diplomats emphasized that responsibility for the killings of civilians lies entirely with the political and military leadership of the Russian Federation.
Official Vilnius continues to consistently support Ukraine on the international stage, calling for increased sanctions pressure on the aggressor. The submission of the note of protest is part of a broader strategy by the Baltic states to document Russia’s crimes for further consideration in international tribunals. Lithuania also called on its EU and NATO partners to provide Ukraine with additional air defense capabilities to protect cities from missile attacks.
