Lithuania is stepping up infrastructure protection due to the threat from Russia — LRT

Lithuania has decided to expand its set of measures to enhance the protection of strategic and critical infrastructure facilities. The tightening of security measures is linked to the risks of potential provocations and hybrid actions by Russia.

Enhanced physical security for these facilities will be provided by the Public Security Service, with the Lithuanian Armed Forces providing assistance if necessary. The Ministry of the Interior has not specified exactly which additional security measures are planned to be implemented.

According to the Ministry of the Interior, Russia has recently been spreading baseless claims that the Baltic states are allegedly allowing other countries to use their airspace or territory for actions against Russia.

It is claimed that such escalatory rhetoric is aimed at diverting attention from setbacks on the front lines and at undermining the resolve of Ukraine’s allies to continue their support.

It cannot be ruled out that, in an effort to heighten tensions in the region, Russia may be planning hostile actions or provocations against targets in the Baltic states. We are closely monitoring the situation, strengthening our readiness, and protecting critical infrastructure,” reads a statement by Interior Minister Vladislav Kondratovich.

Recently, there has been an increase in the number of airspace violations in the Baltic states, and due to a potential threat from drones, air raid alerts were issued twice in certain areas of Lithuania at the end of May.

This was reported by LRT, citing the Lithuanian Ministry of the Interior (MoI).

As a reminder, on the morning of June 2, Lithuania saw a wave of reports of alleged bomb threats at educational institutions, medical facilities, train stations, and the airport

Prior to this, hundreds of educational institutions in Slovenia received anonymous messages about alleged bomb threats. The letters were sent under the pseudonym Bojevnik and were received by 229 schools and kindergartens in Ljubljana and other cities.
