Lukashenko cynically mentioned “brotherly nations” in his message of congratulations to Ukraine
On August 24, Alexander Lukashenko congratulated Ukrainians on Independence Day and called the Ukrainian and Belarusian peoples “brotherly.” The self-proclaimed president of Belarus also referred to the “centuries-old traditions” and shared historical destiny of the two countries.
In his message, Lukashenko stated that the historical fates of Ukraine and Belarus are allegedly “closely intertwined.” According to him, the two nations are bound by “centuries-old traditions,” as well as memories of shared victories and trials.
The Belarusian dictator also expressed confidence that future generations of Ukrainians and Belarusians would supposedly preserve their “time-honored friendly and familial ties,” despite geopolitical changes.
In addition, Lukashenko stated that Minsk and Kyiv wish to resume “mutually beneficial cooperation” based on trust, respect, and equality.
“Hospitable Belarus is always open to every Ukrainian who comes with good intentions,” Lukashenko said cynically.
In closing, Lukashenko wished the citizens of Ukraine health and prosperity, and Ukraine—peace and happiness.
As a reminder, the self-proclaimed president of Belarus, Alexander Lukashenko, stated on August 15 that Belarusians are “Russians with a seal of quality.”
Lukashenko stated that Belarusian military personnel would not take part in the war against Ukraine.
NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte stated that one should not be naive about Belarus’s role in Russia’s war against Ukraine. According to him, Minsk is under strong influence from Moscow, and most of the Belarusian government’s decisions are effectively dictated by the Kremlin.
