Lukashenko declared unity with Ukraine and said he had been in contact with Zelenskyy's representatives

Belarus’s self-proclaimed president, Alexander Lukashenko, stated that the peoples of Ukraine, Russia, and Belarus “will be together sooner or later,” and also reported on alleged talks with representatives of the Ukrainian government.

Lukashenko made the statement during a meeting with Valentina Matviyenko, Chairwoman of the Federation Council of the Russian Federation.

According to Lukashenko, he is convinced that the three countries will inevitably grow closer.

“I am confident—and I recently told this to representatives of Zelenskyy—that our peoples will be together anyway. Sooner or later, we will be together anyway. How could it be otherwise?” he said.

However, he did not specify when exactly this conversation took place or whom exactly he meant by the “representatives” of the Ukrainian president.

Lukashenko also stated that Russia and Belarus are supposedly a “shared homeland, and their unity, in his view, cannot be destroyed.

“Russia and Belarus are, as I say, our common homeland. It’s not our fault that two states were formed here. But these are very friendly, brotherly states. I don’t think there is any force that could destroy this unity,” he said.

In response to Valentina Matvienko’s remark that there are forces seeking to sever these ties, Lukashenko stated that he believes relations between Minsk and Kyiv will be restored.

He also added that, in his opinion, the parties will eventually be able to normalize relations.

“Time will pass, we will get our thoughts in order and restore our relations. I am absolutely convinced of this. And in this regard, you can count on Belarus,” Lukashenko said.

He did not provide any evidence to support his claims of contacts with the Ukrainian side.

This was reported by the Belarusian state news agency BELTA.

As a reminder, Russian dictator Vladimir Putin continues to pressure Belarus’s self-proclaimed president, Alexander Lukashenko, demanding that Minsk become more actively involved in the war against Ukraine. At the same time, the Belarusian leader is trying to avoid directly dragging his country into hostilities while maintaining the Kremlin’s support.

Earlier, Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that relay stations are located on Belarusian territory, which, according to him, help Russian drones attack Ukraine. He publicly called on Alexander Lukashenko to dismantle this infrastructure within a week; otherwise, as the president said, Ukraine would act on its own.

The Belarusian democratic opposition submitted a report to the Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs asserting that Alexander Lukashenko’s regime is systematically preparing the country for possible direct participation in the war against Ukraine.

Belarus’s self-proclaimed president, Alexander Lukashenko, announced a planned meeting with Russian leader Vladimir Putin and a lengthy trip abroad just a few days before the deadline set by Ukraine in its ultimatum.
