Kallas announced new EU sanctions following Russia's massive strike on Kyiv

Kallas announced new EU sanctions following Russia's massive strike on Kyiv

Kaja Kallas, the European Union’s High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, responded to Russia’s massive combined missile and drone strike on Kyiv, stating her intention to propose a new package of sanctions against the aggressor state as early as today.

In her statement, Kallas emphasized that mere statements condemning the Russian attacks are not enough.

“Words of condemnation alone will not stop the attacks on Kyiv. Only continued military support for Ukraine and increased pressure on Moscow can do that,” she stressed.

According to the head of European diplomacy, the European Union has already begun disbursements this week under a 90-billion-euro loan program aimed at strengthening Ukraine’s defense capabilities.

Kallas also stated that the EU intends to expand sanctions pressure on Russia, focusing on entities that support its military-industrial complex.

“Today I will propose imposing sanctions against a greater number of organizations that support the Russian military-industrial complex in response to the attacks. The more Moscow attacks the civilian population, the more sanctions we need to impose. We will continue to raise the stakes until Russia realizes it cannot win,” she said.

Separately, Kaja Kallas thanked the staff of the European Union Delegation to Ukraine, who, despite the difficult security situation, continue to carry out their work.

I thank the diplomats at the EU Delegation to Ukraine, who continue their work with courage and dedication under the most difficult circumstances,” noted the head of European diplomacy.
