Madyar stated that Ukraine should not have the terms of a peace agreement imposed on it

Hungary’s incoming Prime Minister Péter Magyar stated that he seeks friendly relations with Ukraine. At the same time, he emphasized that neither side should impose conditions on Kyiv regarding a future peace agreement.

He made these remarks at a press conference with foreign media in Budapest.

"I haven’t changed my position, unlike Orbán, depending on where he speaks: in Moscow or Brussels. In Hungary, everyone knows that Ukraine is a victim of this war. The Ukrainian government’s task is to defend its territorial integrity and sovereignty, and no one can dictate to them, after four years of war, on what terms they should agree to peace,” Magyar said.

According to him, one cannot tell any country to give up its territory, as politicians from Fidesz—Hungary’s ruling party—have done. Just as if Russia were to attack Hungary, no one would cede their territory.

“It is not up to Hungary to resolve the peace issue between Russia and Ukraine, but they should be provided with security guarantees and guarantees of territorial integrity that can be upheld and monitored,” noted Péter Magyar.
