Mahama: oath of Ghana’s new Supreme Court judges is not a formality
Ghanaian President John Mahama said during the swearing-in ceremony of three new Supreme Court judges that their oath is not a formality, but a solemn commitment to the people of the country.
As MyJoyOnline reports, the president emphasized that the newly appointed judges have assumed some of the highest and most responsible positions in Ghana’s constitutional democracy. He called on them to administer justice without fear, favour or prejudice and to always uphold the 1992 Constitution.
Trust in the judiciary
According to Mahama, the authority of the Supreme Court is based not on force or political power, but on the trust and confidence of Ghanaian citizens. The president noted that the new judges must demonstrate prudence, personal integrity, intellectual courage, patience and a deep commitment to justice.

He also called on them to protect constitutional rights, safeguard the principle of separation of powers and ensure that no person or institution is above the law.
Three new judges
Mahama welcomed the new judges after Parliament approved their nominations. He also noted the support and sacrifices of their families, colleagues and mentors throughout the judges’ professional careers.
Sophia Rosetta Oduokuan Bernasko-Essa, Edward Amoako Asante and Anthony Forson Jr. joined the Supreme Court.
