Mahama says exam results in Ghana are more objective
Ghanaian President John Dramani Mahama said that the results of the 2026 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) more accurately reflect students’ academic abilities after measures against examination misconduct were strengthened. He said this on September 12 during a meeting with citizens at the Simon Diedong Dombo University of Business and Integrated Development Studies in the Upper West Region, MyJoyOnline reports.
Tighter examination oversight
According to Mahama, stricter supervision has significantly limited the provision of unauthorized assistance to candidates during examinations. The president believes this makes it possible to see the actual level of schoolchildren’s preparation before they move on to the next stage of education.
He said he was pleased to see students’ true results. The president’s remarks were made as part of the Resetting Ghana Tour.

Statements about previous violations
Mahama also said that previously some school principals and other officials may have facilitated cheating. According to him, this resulted in some candidates receiving grades that did not correspond to their level of knowledge and continuing their education without the basic skills required at higher levels of education.
The president added that results in certain subjects, including mathematics and social studies, had improved. At the same time, he said the government was examining the reasons for a slight decline in the social studies indicator.
