Macron discussed the war in Ukraine and the Middle East with Erdogan
President Emmanuel Macron held a telephone conversation with President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. During the talks, the two leaders discussed Russia’s war against Ukraine, as well as the situation in the Middle East.

Regarding the situation in the Middle East, Macron noted that he and Erdogan called for compliance with the ceasefire and its implementation in Lebanon, as well as for the preservation of freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz.
In addition, they emphasized the need for a reliable and long-term diplomatic solution to the current conflict.
"We also discussed the situation in Ukraine and our joint work within the 'coalition of the resolute,' aimed at promoting the search for a just and lasting peace that must necessarily comply with the principles of the United Nations Charter and be based on reliable security guarantees for Ukraine," Macron added.
In addition, ahead of the European Political Community summit, which will take place on May 4 in Yerevan, Macron reminded Erdogan of France’s support for the peace process in the South Caucasus, which should allow the region to embark on a new phase with open borders and strengthened regional cooperation.
"Finally, we agreed on the need to continue deepening our dialogue and bilateral cooperation," the French president concluded.
