Macron called on the U.S. and Iran to reopen the Strait of Hormuz
French President Emmanuel Macron announced active diplomatic efforts aimed at restoring free navigation in the Strait of Hormuz. During a visit to Andorra, he emphasized that he is negotiating with both Donald Trump and the Iranian side to resolve the energy crisis “at its root.”
This was reported by BFMTV.
The French leader welcomed the current ceasefire in Lebanon and noted that this period must be used to stabilize global fuel markets. According to Macron, reopening the strait is critical for normalizing prices, which have skyrocketed due to the blockade of the sea route. He personally urged his American counterpart on the need to restore navigation to prevent further economic pressure on Europe and the world.
The Strait of Hormuz is a key artery for global oil exports, and its closure directly affects the revenues of energy-dependent countries, including Russia. Macron emphasized that France and its partners are doing everything possible to ensure the security of trade routes during the ongoing negotiations. Further developments depend on the willingness of Tehran and Washington to compromise within the framework of the current ceasefire.
Iran has submitted a new proposal to the United States regarding the resolution of the situation surrounding the Strait of Hormuz and the cessation of hostilities. At the same time, Tehran proposes postponing nuclear negotiations to a later stage.
U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated that Iran continues to attempt to maintain control over the Strait of Hormuz. He emphasized that such approaches are unacceptable to the United States and underscored the importance of freedom of navigation in the region.
