In Indonesia, Malaysian citizens became the largest group of foreign passengers on the high-speed railway between Jakarta and Bandung. In the first eight months of 2026, more than 105,000 travelers from Malaysia used this line, accounting for about 40% of all foreign passengers during that period.
More than 400,000 passengers from Malaysia
From the start of the line’s operation in October 2023 through August 2026, 403,626 passengers from Malaysia traveled on the route. This is the highest figure among foreign nationals, ECNS reports, citing data from the railway operator.
Overall, the railway carried 944,087 foreign passengers during this period. Travelers from Malaysia accounted for 42.8% of them.

Route between Jakarta and Bandung
The high-speed line, built through cooperation between Indonesia and China, is 142.3 kilometers long. It reduced travel time between Jakarta and Bandung from more than three hours to 46 minutes. Trains on the route can reach speeds of up to 350 kilometers per hour.
According to the publication, many visitors learned about the railway through social media and positively assessed the cost of travel, comfort, and service. Travel agencies in Indonesia and Malaysia also offer packages combining a high-speed train trip with visits to tourist sites and accommodation.
