Residents of Abura in Ghana receive free health screenings during Fetu Afahye
Telecel Ghana Foundation organized free health screenings for residents of Abura in Ghana’s Central Region during the Fetu Afahye celebrations. The event was held as part of the Connected Health program, according to MyJoyOnline.
What screenings were conducted
Healthcare workers from Cape Coast Metropolitan Hospital and the Divine Mother and Child Foundation (DMAC) joined the initiative. Residents were offered screenings for malaria, hepatitis B, typhoid fever and HIV, as well as blood glucose tests.
Telecel Ghana Foundation Sustainability and External Communications Manager Rita Agyeiwaa Rockson said the foundation seeks to use community events, including Fetu Afahye, to improve access to healthcare services. According to her, the organization intends to screen and inform as many community residents as possible given the prevalence of non-communicable diseases.

Cape Coast Metropolitan Hospital medical officer Dr. Bernard Bedu Boamah noted the active response of Abura residents to the initiative. He thanked the foundation for giving the community an opportunity to use free healthcare services and for encouraging people to pay more attention to their health.
Twenty-year-old program participant Godwin Ampofo said that because of being busy and financial difficulties, he cannot always seek medical care. HealthFest is part of the foundation’s Connected Health program, aimed at expanding access to quality healthcare and preventive practices in Ghana.
