Mamdani calls for respecting ICC arrest warrant for Netanyahu — Jerusalem Post
New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani, ahead of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s visit to New York, United States, said that the arrest warrant issued for him by the International Criminal Court must be respected. At the same time, Mamdani acknowledged that he does not have the authority to independently arrest the Israeli prime minister, the Jerusalem Post reports.
Statement by the New York mayor
In an interview with CNN, Mamdani called Netanyahu a war criminal and the architect of what he described as a horrific genocide of the Palestinian people. He said that the ICC decision must be respected, as it concerns trust in politics and the principle of accountability.
Mamdani also said that when the ICC considers a person subject to arrest for violating laws, no one should be above that. According to him, everyone must be held accountable.

Netanyahu’s visit to the UN
In July, Mamdani said that he had explored the possibility of arresting Netanyahu on the basis of the ICC warrant. A few days later, he concluded that he could not do so legally, but stated that the Israeli prime minister was not welcome in New York.
Netanyahu is expected to arrive in New York on Thursday to address the UN General Assembly. Initially, his trip was to last several days and included a visit to Texas and a meeting with US President Donald Trump. The current plan calls for his arrival in the morning, a speech at 2:00 p.m., and a swift return to Israel. Protests are expected during the visit, but Mamdani said he does not plan to join them.
