Ghana Maritime Authority says it monitors vessels around the clock — MyJoyOnline
The Ghana Maritime Authority (GMA) has rejected claims that vessels in the country’s waters are not under surveillance. The agency said its vessel monitoring system is operational and provides round-the-clock observation of Ghana’s maritime domain.
Response to public statements
As reported by MyJoyOnline, the GMA responded to comments by Dennis Miracles Aboagye made on September 22, 2026, during the Daily Brief programme on TV3 and Newsnite on Joy FM. The comments claimed that the agency’s monitoring system was ineffective and that vessels in Ghanaian waters were not being tracked.
The administration described those claims as false and misleading. In a statement, the GMA said it continues to use maritime domain awareness tools to continuously track vessels within the country’s maritime jurisdiction.

Protection of maritime infrastructure
According to the agency, the surveillance system also helps monitor and protect offshore oil and gas facilities, pipelines, and subsea cables. The GMA said it applies standard operating procedures to track vessels, establish their identity, and verify compliance with established requirements.
The agency added that the system is important for navigation safety, maritime security, and environmental protection, and urged the public to rely on official communications regarding vessel monitoring.
