King Salman highlights military’s role in protecting holy sites — Asharq Al-Awsat
Saudi Arabia’s King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, during a government meeting in Jeddah, highlighted the role of the military and security forces in protecting the country, Muslim holy sites, pilgrims, citizens and residents of the kingdom. This was reported by Asharq Al-Awsat.
The meeting took place on September 22, ahead of Saudi Arabia’s National Day. The king also wished the country further achievements on its path of development and progress across all sectors.
Statement on an attempted attack on Mecca
Salman bin Abdulaziz condemned what he described as a repeated attempt by the Houthis to strike Mecca. He said that such actions violate the sanctity of religious holy sites and affect the feelings of Muslims around the world. The report notes that this attempt was condemned internationally.

The government also reviewed the results of Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman’s visit to Egypt. During talks with President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, the sides emphasized the development of bilateral relations, enhanced cooperation and continued consultations on matters of mutual interest.
Regional security and international law
The meeting discussed a message from Jordan’s King Abdullah II and a telephone conversation between the crown prince and French President Emmanuel Macron. The discussion concerned regional developments, strengthening stability, as well as the security and freedom of navigation along maritime routes.
Saudi Arabia’s Cabinet stated the need to comply with international law, respect states’ sovereignty, resolve disputes peacefully and ensure safe navigation through international waterways. Separately, the government reviewed recommendations from the UNESCO forum on the ethics of artificial intelligence, the results of a medical biotechnology summit in Riyadh, and the presentation of the first models of the national automotive company CEER.
