Turkish Airlines to order up to 150 Boeing 737 MAX aircraft — Anadolu Agency

Turkish airline Turkish Airlines on September 23 concluded an agreement with Boeing to acquire up to 150 aircraft from the 737 MAX family. The agreement became the largest order for Boeing narrow-body aircraft in the carrier's history and was finalized in the presence of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. The deal was reported by Anadolu Agency.

100 aircraft in firm order

Under the agreement, Turkish Airlines will place a firm order for 100 Boeing 737-8 aircraft and retain an option for another 50 Boeing 737 MAX aircraft. The company will also be able to switch part of the order to the Boeing 737-10, the largest model in the 737 MAX family.

Turkish Airlines Chairman of the Board and Executive Committee Murat Seker said the new aircraft are expected to improve the carrier's operational efficiency and flexibility and support its flight network from its Istanbul hub. Negotiations on the contract began in 2025.

Network expansion and industrial cooperation

The new aircraft are planned to be used on high-demand domestic and international short- and medium-haul routes. Turkish Airlines notes that the Boeing 737-8 offers advantages in range and payload capacity, while consuming 20% less fuel and producing fewer emissions compared with the aircraft it replaces.

Turkish Airlines and its subsidiary AJet currently operate more than 200 Boeing aircraft, including 737 MAX, 737 Next-Generation, 787 Dreamliner and 777 Freighter cargo models. In 2025, Turkish Airlines also ordered 75 Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft. Separately, the companies signed a memorandum on strategic industrial cooperation this year, covering capability development, value creation and business opportunities in Türkiye's aviation industry.
