Manchester may host Britain’s Global Investment Summit — The National
Manchester in the United Kingdom is highly likely to become the venue for the country’s next Global Investment Summit in spring 2027. The event, initially planned to be held in London in December, may be moved to the northern English city, The National reports.
Final decision has not been announced
A political source told the publication that Manchester is a “very likely” candidate because of its rapid urban development. At the same time, Downing Street has not officially announced the summit venue. A spokesperson for the UK Department for Business said that any announcements about future summits would be made in due course.
Prime Minister Andy Burnham, who was previously mayor of Manchester, seeks to shift the economic centre from London to cities in northern England. According to the publication, moving the event to spring is intended to place regional growth at the centre of government policy.

The city’s infrastructure and economy
According to the government’s Northern Growth Strategy, Greater Manchester has been the United Kingdom’s fastest-growing urban region since 2015, and its economy is valued at £100 billion. A University of Cambridge study named Manchester the most productive major English city outside London.
The city has an international airport, major conference venues, hotels, universities, as well as a developed technology sector and life sciences industry. Manchester Central Convention Complex is one of the venues capable of hosting major international conferences. A source for The National also said that Birmingham, Leeds and Newcastle may have been considered, but the political preference is currently in Manchester’s favour.
Some business representatives questioned the advisability of moving the summit from London, particularly because of whether executives of international companies would be ready to travel to the north of the country. Supporters of the initiative stress that Manchester’s infrastructure makes it possible to hold an international business meeting of this scale.
