Morocco declares red wildfire danger level in six provinces
Morocco’s National Agency for Water and Forest Resources has declared a red wildfire danger level in six provinces. The warning will remain in effect until Tuesday; residents of areas near forests were urged to exercise caution and refrain from actions that could cause a fire.
Six provinces in the red zone
The red level was introduced in the provinces of Fahs-Anjra, Tangier-Assilah, Taounate, Taza, Essaouira and Taroudant. It indicates an extremely high risk of fires.
Another 24 provinces in the country received an orange level, indicating a high risk of wildfires, Anadolu Agency reports.

Call to report smoke
The agency appealed to workers, holidaymakers and visitors to forest areas to follow precautionary measures. People were also urged to immediately inform local authorities if they notice smoke or suspicious behavior.
Morocco uses an early warning system to assess wildfire risk, managed by the National Agency for Water and Forest Resources. It takes into account weather conditions and the state of vegetation cover. From the beginning of the year through July 20, the country recorded 310 wildfires that affected approximately 1,850 hectares.
