Medics in Netanya complete sukkah construction after woman injured — Jerusalem Post

In Netanya, Israel, medics from the Magen David Adom organization completed the construction of a sukkah for a woman aged between 60 and 69 who sustained a head injury while preparing for the Sukkot holiday. According to the Jerusalem Post, a metal rod fell and struck the woman on the head while she and a family acquaintance were installing the upper supports of the structure near her home.

The acquaintance helping with the construction called Magen David Adom's emergency line at 101. First-response medics Nachman Levy and Netanel Peretz, senior medic Ben-El Amira from the motorcycle unit, and an ambulance crew led by Shmuel Mami arrived at the scene. They examined the woman and provided her with initial medical care.

Construction after assistance

According to Ben-El Amira, after the examination, the team determined that the woman's condition was stable and that she did not require urgent transportation to a hospital. The medics then decided to complete the construction of the sukkah, which she had not managed to finish before the holiday.

The woman said that at first she thought the medics were asking about the unfinished sukkah to determine which metal rod had struck her. Later, she saw that the team was continuing the construction. She thanked the medics, noting that they had not only provided her with assistance but had also completed the sukkah.

Safety recommendations

Before Sukkot, Magen David Adom also issued safety recommendations. Those setting up a sukkah in a yard are advised to wear closed shoes, remove vegetation near the work area, and keep pathways clear. The structure is recommended to be placed at a safe distance from electrical equipment and gas cylinders, with no open flame used near them, while heavy objects should be securely fastened on balconies of high-rise buildings. Children are advised not to be allowed near the area where the structure's walls are being installed.
