Medvedev included Ukraine's occupied territories in a Russian textbook

A new Russian social studies textbook for 9th grade, edited by Dmitry Medvedev, Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council, includes an updated map of Russia showing the occupied regions of Ukraine

The authors have incorporated the Donetsk, Luhansk, Zaporizhzhia, and Kherson regions into the territory of the foreign state.

It is noteworthy that the city of Kherson, which the Russian army completely withdrew from back in the fall of 2022, is shown within the borders of the Russian Federation on the map.

The textbook’s authors also included the entire territory of the Zaporizhzhia and Donetsk regions, where fierce fighting is currently underway.

At the same time, the regional center of Zaporizhzhia, home to about 700,000 people and controlled by Ukraine, was not marked on the map at all.

In the section on the formation of the state, the textbook’s authors cited a statement by Vladimir Putin during an official event of the Russian Geographical Society in 2016.

At that time, he publicly stated that “Russia’s borders do not end anywhere.” Additionally, the text notes that this phrase was previously uttered during an informal meeting with “one of the former U.S. presidents” at the Novo-Ogaryovo residence.

Medvedev suggested that the Baltic states invoke NATO’s Article 5 against Ukraine

Czech President Petr Pavel stated that Europe must take greater responsibility for its own security, as the U.S. is gradually shifting some of these obligations onto European countries.

NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte said in an interview with Newsmax that there is “broad support” among alliance countries for U.S. President Donald Trump’s campaign against Iran’s nuclear and missile capabilities.
