The Russian retail market continues to shrink as consumers tighten their belts. FunDay, a casual clothing brand owned by Sportmaster, closed about 50 stores across Russia by the end of 2025.
This is reported by Russian media.
According to sources, the company is attempting to negotiate rent reductions with landlords. If property owners refuse to compromise, the retailer decides to close the store.
Currently, the FunDay chain has approximately 116 stores, but the optimization process continues. This was reported by Yevgeniya Khakberdiyeva, regional director of the retail real estate department at NF Group.
The company explained the network reduction as a necessity to adapt to changes in consumer demand and market conditions. A brand representative stated that the closure of some stores is offset by the opening of new retail locations.
FunDay operates in the budget segment and targets primarily young families. At the same time, sources note that problems are observed not only with this brand but also within the overall structure of the Sportmaster company.
Against the backdrop of an unstable economic situation, the company is reviewing the format of its retail network. According to data from the “Check Index” service of the “Platforma OFD” company, in January–March 2026, the number of clothing and footwear purchases in Russia decreased by 4% year-over-year.
Earlier, the Rusagro Group, one of Russia’s largest vertically integrated agricultural holdings, began shutting down operations in the Belgorod region.
As of September 1, 2025, therewere 3.17 million enterprises remaining in Russia, compared to 3.29 million in 2023.
