Russia poses a serious threat to the United Kingdom, particularly to its critical infrastructure. This is stated in a speech by Anne Keist-Butler, head of the UK’s Government Communications Headquarters (GCHQ).

According to Keist-Butler, the country has entered a “new era of radical uncertainty,” and the risk of miscalculations amid threats from hackers in Russia and China is now higher than ever before.

She noted that Moscow threatens critical infrastructure, democratic processes, supply chains, and public trust, and is intensifying daily hybrid attacks against the UK and Europe.

The UK has proposed creating a single market for trade in goods with the European Union, which could mark a new phase in the reset of relations following Brexit. The initiative has not yet gained traction due to EU skepticism, but London insists on a more ambitious format for cooperation.

On January 1, 2021, the UK completed the process of leaving the EU, which began in late January 2020.
