Merz announced new sanctions against Russia's shadow fleet
Europe plans to discuss immediate measures to impose a 20th package of sanctions against Russia in order to increase pressure on Moscow.

German Chancellor Friedrich Merz made this statement during a joint press conference with Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
"To dry up Russia’s sources of war funding, we are planning new measures against the shadow fleet. We are also cooperating with countries in the Middle East to increase their defense capabilities," the chancellor emphasized.
He noted that he had discussed the issue of ending the war with the Ukrainian side. At the same time, the politician reiterated his demand that the war in Ukraine must end at the negotiating table.
"We want lasting peace, and Ukraine is ready for this. But Ukraine will never agree to a peace dictated by Moscow that would allow it to impose its maximum demands. And we will never agree to the weakening of the EU and NATO… This is a clear signal to Russia. We will continue to support Ukraine. Russia must end this war as soon as possible. Russia has no chance of winning this war,” Merz stated.
Germany and Ukraine have elevated their relations to the level of a strategic partnership.
