Merz Announced Personnel Changes in the German Government
German Chancellor Friedrich Merz announced a cabinet reshuffle following the resignation of Jens Spahn, head of the CDU/CSU parliamentary group, amid a scandal involving surrogacy.
He noted, however, that the personnel changes are not yet complete.
Carsten Linnemann, who previously served as secretary-general of the Christian Democratic Union, will become the new health minister. His predecessor, Nina Warken, will head the chancellor’s office. Philip Amtor has also been appointed State Minister responsible for the government’s relations with the federal states.
According to Merz, new personnel decisions will be announced in the coming days or weeks. Meanwhile, German media report that Fritz Günzler may become Minister of Transportation, although this appointment has not yet been officially confirmed.
