A suspect accused of spying for Russia has been apprehended in Lithuania
Lithuanian law enforcement authorities are investigating a case involving a Lithuanian citizen suspected of spying for Russia. According to the investigation, he was gathering information about military facilities, equipment, and troop movements.
According to the Lithuanian Prosecutor General’s Office, the suspect allegedly established contact via Telegram and, acting on instructions from individuals linked to Russian intelligence, photographed military infrastructure and transmitted the collected data.
The investigation established that the man documented the activities of a Lithuanian Armed Forces battalion, a military radar systems manufacturing facility, and the movement of military equipment at Vilnius Airport. In addition, he offered to gather similar information during a trip to Belgium.
Under Lithuanian law, espionage on behalf of a foreign state is punishable by imprisonment for a term of six to 15 years.
