Migrants Tried to Force a Lithuanian Border Guard Back into Belarus — LRT
On July 26, an incident occurred at the Lithuanian-Belarusian border. During the apprehension of migrants, about 20 people attacked four border guards, resulting in one of them sustaining minor injuries, while the attackers attempted to forcibly drag him into Belarusian territory.
It is noted that the officer in question is currently on sick leave.
Vitalius Jagminas, chairman of the Vilnius County Pre-trial Investigation Institutions Trade Union, confirmed to the portal that one of the officers is on sick leave.
In addition, it is reported that Rustamas Lyubaevas, head of the Lithuanian Border Guard Service, allegedly provided border guards with instructions on what they should say about the incident.
In response to a journalist’s inquiry, the Lithuanian Border Guard Service stated that it could not comment on the circumstances of this incident, as a pre-trial investigation is currently underway.
The Delfi news portal was the first to report on the incident last week. According to its report, in the Lazdijai District, on the territory of the Kapčiamestis outpost, four border guards set up an ambush after discovering a tunnel dug under the state border. The border guards detained several migrants and handcuffed them, but during the detention, about 20 foreigners attacked the officers.
The officers were forced to flee, while the illegal migrants—including those who had been handcuffed—escaped to Belarus. The Border Guard Service reported the discovery of the tunnel and the migrants who had fled, but made no mention of the attack on its officers.
Lubayevs has repeatedly denied claims that the officers may have been attacked.

Belarus has begun forming a new 37th Separate Airborne Assault Brigade, which will be stationed near Gomel—approximately 40 kilometers from the border with Ukraine. Alexander Ilyukevich, commander of the Special Operations Forces of the Belarusian Armed Forces, announced this on the Belarusian military television channel.
As a reminder, Lukashenko stated that Belarusian servicemen would not take part in the war against Ukraine.
NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte stated that one should not be naive about Belarus’s role in Russia’s war against Ukraine. According to him, Minsk is under strong influence from Moscow, and most of the Belarusian government’s decisions are effectively dictated by the Kremlin.
