The British Defense Minister said he was ready to respond to attacks by Iran
British Defense Minister Wes Streeting stated that London will not yield to Tehran’s threats and is prepared to respond to any potential attacks by Iran against the country or its allies. He made these remarks in a comment to the BBC, according to “European Truth.”
Streeting was responding to statements by Iranian officials who called Britain a legitimate target because of its role in supporting the U.S. and Israel’s war against Iran. “We are prepared to respond to any attacks Iran decides to carry out against our country or our allies, and we will continue to do so,” the British minister said.
When asked about Iran’s ability to attack the United Kingdom, Streeting replied that one should not “attach too much significance to these threats.” He also reiterated that Britain has not joined—and will not join—U.S. offensive military operations in Iran.

At the same time, London has allowed the U.S. to conduct operations—which the British side describes as defensive—from British bases where American personnel and aircraft are stationed. Streeting emphasized that the UK and the US share the same position on ensuring freedom of navigation and free commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz. According to him, the United Kingdom is ready to lead a naval mission to clear mines from the strait when conditions are favorable.
The minister also announced that he plans to meet with Pentagon chief Pete Hagsett next week. Earlier, media reports indicated that Hagsett had urged Streeting to organize a summit involving other countries to address the protection of maritime navigation in the Strait of Hormuz.
