Video: Moldova's Defense Minister Refused to Answer Questions in Russian
During a press conference, Moldovan Defense Minister Anatolie Nosatii interrupted a journalist who began asking him questions in Russian. The defense minister asked her to ask her questions in the official language, after which the journalist continued in Romanian.
During Wednesday’s press conference, a NewsMaker reporter began asking the minister a question, addressing him in Russian: “Mr. Nosatyi, tell us.”
Nosati did not let her finish her question, replying in Romanian: “I don’t understand you.”
After that, the journalist repeated her question in Romanian.
“Thank you very much for speaking the official language—Romanian. You speak it very well,” Nosati replied, after which he answered her question.
Meanwhile, NewsMaker noted the minister’s resume, published on the government’s website, in which he stated that he speaks Romanian, English, and Russian.
Nosatyi’s biography also notes that in the 1990s, he underwent four years of military training in Ukraine—a tactical reconnaissance course at the Kyiv Higher Combined Arms Command School and an infantry training course in Odesa.

Following a request from Kyiv, Moldova has cut the transit tariff for Ukrainian cargo in half.
Ukraine is considering the possibility of transporting grain by rail through Moldova to the Romanian port of Constanța as a safer alternative to maritime exports. Kyiv has already appealed to Chișinău to establish a reduced tariff for such shipments.
As a reminder, grain exports from Ukraine could fall by more than half.
