Poland's Defense Minister Will Visit Volhynia to Honor the Victims of the Volhynia Tragedy

Polish Defense Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz will visit the Volyn Oblast on Saturday, July 11, where he will take part in events commemorating those who died during World War II.

According to Kosiniak-Kamysz, the purpose of the trip is to honor the memory of the victims of the Volyn tragedy.

“For many years now, Bishop Vitaliy Skomarovskyi of Lutsk has been organizing memorial services there. Our thoughts and prayers will be with all those who died simply because they were Polish. The victims call not for revenge, but for remembrance and truth,” emphasized the Polish Minister of Defense.

He also underscored the importance of preserving historical memory and honoring all those who perished, noting that remembrance of the tragedy must be based on truth, mutual respect, and the prevention of similar events in the future.

The head of the Polish Defense Ministry announced his intention on social media platform X.

Every year on July 11, Poland observes the National Day of Remembrance for the Victims of the Volhynia Tragedy. On this day, the country honors the memory of Polish civilians who died during the tragic events in Volhynia and other regions of the former Second Polish Republic during World War II. This commemorative date is marked by state ceremonies, flower-laying ceremonies, religious services, and moments of silence.
