Air travel disruptions are possible due to the war in Iran — European Commissioner

European Commissioner for Transport Apostolos Tsitsikostas has warned of the risk of serious disruptions to air travel due to the war in Iran and the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz.

This was reported by dpa.

According to him, there is currently no shortage of jet fuel in Europe—more than 80% of airports report no shortage of resources.

However, fuel prices have already more than doubled, prompting some airlines to begin canceling flights that were already unprofitable.

Tsitsikostas noted that if the crisis drags on and no solutions are found after June, a real shortage could arise.

He emphasized that the situation remains difficult, although Europe currently has sufficient emergency fuel reserves.

EU countries report reserve levels daily to ensure control over resources.

If the situation worsens, these reserves could be used to stabilize the market.

The war in Iran has already raised concerns about the stability of air travel in Europe, as a significant portion of fuel comes from the Middle East.

Ryanair warns of possible fuel supply disruptions in May due to the war.

We also reported that Ryanair may begin canceling flights due to the threat of a fuel shortage.
