Japan’s Foreign Ministry creates separate cybersecurity policy division — The Japan Times
Japan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has created a new Cybersecurity Policy Division within its Foreign Policy Bureau. The decision was made in response to the growing risk of cyberattacks associated with the development of artificial intelligence.
International coordination
The new division will be responsible for strengthening coordination with allies, like-minded countries and other partners. It will also contribute to the development of international rules in the field of cybersecurity, The Japan Times reports, citing Japan’s foreign ministry.

Return of a separate structure
A similar division within the Foreign Policy Bureau was first established in 2016. It was later merged with the National Security Policy Division as part of an organizational reform.
Amid increasing cyber threats, the ministry decided that a separate division was needed. Around 10–20 employees of the National Security Policy Division will also work in the newly created structure. Its tasks include developing Japan’s cyber diplomacy, including supporting capacity building in developing countries.
