The Ministry of Foreign Affairs explained why Ukrainian drones ended up in Finland
Ukraine’s Foreign Ministry said that drones which ended up in Finland were not directed at the country, adding that Kyiv has shared all necessary information with Finnish authorities and apologized for the incident.
Foreign Ministry spokesperson Heorhii Tykhyi said Ukraine is in close contact with Finnish partners to clarify the circumstances.
“We are in communication with our Finnish friends regarding this incident. Ukraine has already provided the necessary information to establish all the details,” Tykhyi said.
He stressed that “under no circumstances were any Ukrainian drones” aimed at Finland, adding that the most likely cause was interference from Russian electronic warfare systems.
“We have already apologized to the Finnish side. We also share the understanding with our Finnish partners that the root cause of this incident and broader security challenges in the region is Russia’s aggression against Ukraine,” he said.
The ministry said Ukraine is working to ensure transparency and regional security, and is coordinating with partners to prevent similar incidents.
Separately, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said some partners had urged Kyiv to scale back strikes on Russia’s oil sector following the global energy crisis, stressing that Ukraine’s actions are a response to ongoing attacks.
Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha said progress has been made toward establishing a Special Tribunal to investigate the crime of aggression against Ukraine, adding that eight countries have confirmed readiness to join the initiative.
