Cyprus to Attempt to Revitalize Trump’s Peace Council on June 30 — Politico
The International Peace Council, initiated by the American leader, will hold a three-day meeting at one of Cyprus’s Mediterranean resorts.
The meeting is scheduled for June 30, and its main goal is to significantly restructure the organization’s current activities.
According to informed sources, participants plan to “adjust their strategy” and adapt it to new geopolitical realities.
Two high-ranking European Union officials directly involved in the organizational process have officially confirmed that the event will take place next week. The diplomats agreed to disclose details of the event only on the condition of complete anonymity.
According to them, the meeting will last two to three days and is intended to give new impetus to the work of the international body.
The main reason for the urgent meeting is the need to stabilize the institution’s operations following a prolonged period of tension in the Middle East.
Officials note that recent global conflicts have significantly shifted the focus of the international community.
“The goal is to ‘reset’ the situation after the ‘war with Iran has completely shifted attention over the past few months,’” said one of the European officials.
Representatives of the National Committee for the Management of Gaza, which consists of Palestinian technocrats and is intended to replace the Hamas faction, will participate in the meeting.
Delegates from Nikolay Mladenov’s office will also arrive in Cyprus. U.S. President Donald Trump previously appointed this former Bulgarian diplomat as his special envoy for Gaza.
An official familiar with the situation reported this to Politico.
