The International Criminal Court Wants to Dismiss a Prosecutor Over Allegations of Sexual Harassment
The Supervisory Body of the International Criminal Court has recommended the dismissal of Chief Prosecutor Karim Khan following an investigation into allegations of sexual harassment.
According to a document from the Executive Bureau of the ICC’s governing body, the prosecutor allegedly engaged in inappropriate sexual conduct with a court employee, taking advantage of his position. The decision also states that some of the incidents may have occurred without the woman’s consent.
Based on its findings, the Bureau recommended that Khan be removed from office. The final decision is to be made by the Assembly of States Parties to the ICC during a vote scheduled for July 24.
Karim Khan himself denies all allegations. His lawyers have called the decision unlawful and stated that the available evidence is insufficient to substantiate the allegations.
