Tusk Expects Tensions with Kyiv to Ease Thanks to the Conference in Gdańsk

Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk expressed hope that the international conference on Ukraine’s reconstruction in Gdańsk would help halt the escalation of tensions between Warsaw and Kyiv.

The Polish leader emphasized that an escalation of tensions is certainly not in the interest of either nation, so his main goal was to ensure the successful conduct of this meeting.

At the same time, Tusk announced his intention to openly address Ukrainian politicians with some harsh and bitter words regarding their inadequate response to disputes surrounding their shared complex history, directly during his meeting with the head of the Ukrainian government. The Polish prime minister also noted that he viewed the decision to have President Volodymyr Zelenskyy absent from the meeting in Gdańsk positively, as replacing the head of the delegation with the prime minister would reduce emotional tension and allow for a focus on the substantive issues. According to the prime minister, this format of Ukraine’s representation in the current situation will contribute to the effectiveness of the planned talks.

This was reported by Polish radio station RMF24.
