Cyprus to resume nutrition education programme for schoolchildren
In Nicosia, Cyprus, the Food Academy for Children at the Lidl Food Academy programme, run by Lidl Cyprus jointly with the country’s Ministry of Education, Sport and Youth, will resume in the 2026–2027 school year. The programme will run for the ninth consecutive year and aims to develop balanced eating habits and environmental awareness among students, Cyprus Mail reports in a press release.
Classes for secondary school students
The programme is part of the health education course for schoolchildren entering the first year of secondary school. It was launched in 2018. Since then, more than 6,800 children from 260 schools in different regions of Cyprus have taken part in the classes.
Practical classes will be held in the modern facilities of the Lidl Food Academy in central Nicosia. Students will learn about the principles of a balanced Mediterranean diet and acquire practical cooking skills.

Nutrition and waste reduction
During the masterclasses, children will be taught by a qualified chef with the support of a registered clinical dietitian-nutritionist. Separate class topics will cover food sustainability, the origin of ingredients and reducing food waste.
Participation in the programme is free of charge, and the masterclasses will take place during school hours. The Health Education and Home Economics Inspectorate in the secondary education system of Cyprus’s Ministry of Education, Sport and Youth is responsible for coordinating the programme and applications from schools.
