In Cyprus, fires burned 2.9 hectares of land in one day — Cyprus Mail
Over the past 24 hours in Cyprus, fires burned a total of 2.9 hectares of land. During this time, the fire service received 19 calls, including reports of fires near Pissouri, Agios Ioannis Malountas and Orounta, Cyprus Mail reports.
Fire near Pissouri
At around 10:20 on Monday, dry vegetation caught fire near residential development in Pissouri, in the Limassol district. Six fire engines, an excavator and a water tanker were deployed to extinguish it. The fire was fully brought under control at 12:30.
The fire burned approximately four acres of dry grass and wild vegetation, as well as several trees.

Fire in the Nicosia district
Later that day, at 16:57, the fire service was called to a fire in difficult-to-access terrain near Agios Ioannis Malountas in the Nicosia district. Three fire engines from the Nicosia district and another three from the forestry department worked at the scene. The fire was fully brought under control at 17:50. It burned about 1.5 hectares of wild vegetation.
Another fire was recorded in Orounta at 17:24. A fire engine and a mobile fire unit were dispatched there, and the fire was fully brought under control at 18:14. According to the fire service's preliminary assessment, sparks from cables of the Cyprus Electricity Authority may have been the cause.
Car fire
At around 3:29 on Tuesday, firefighters also responded to a call in the community of Amargeti in the Paphos district, where two cars caught fire in the yard of a house. The cause of this fire is being established.
