A state of emergency has been declared in the Kuban region following a dam breach

A state of emergency has been declared in four rural settlements in Russia’s Krasnodar Krai following a dam breach on the Kuban River. Water continues to flood farmland, and residents of some settlements have been warned of a possible evacuation due to the threat of homes being flooded.

In Russia’s Krasnodar Krai, a state of emergency has been declared in four rural settlements in the Krymsky District. The cause was a dam breach on the Kuban River near the village of Zakhidny, which occurred on June 3.

The Krymsky District administration announced the declaration of the state of emergency. Restrictions are in effect in the rural settlements of Troitskoye, Kyivskoye, Pivdennoye, and Keslerovskoye. After the dam burst, water began flooding the surrounding areas. Agricultural land was the first to be affected. According to local authorities, more than four hectares of land were submerged, most of which is planted with wheat.

In addition, water continues to flow into the Afipsky Canal, keeping the situation critical. Immediately after the accident, authorities evacuated residents from three settlements. Residents of the village of Troitskaya, home to over six thousand people, have now been warned of a possible worsening of the situation and urged to be prepared for evacuation.

Local authorities reported that water continues to flow in. “Water from the breach in the Kuban River dam continues to flow onto agricultural land and fill the Afipsky Canal,” officials stated. The situation is complicated by heavy rains that have hit the Krasnodar Region in recent days. According to Russian media reports, significant flooding has also been recorded in Krasnodar since June 12.

Local authorities reported that utility services are pumping out water in Krasnodar, Labinsk, and the Kalininsky District. According to official data, 108 residential areas and 84 residential buildings have been flooded. In many homes, water has flooded basements. Utility workers continue to address the aftermath of the storm and are monitoring water levels.

So far, there have been no reports of casualties. At the same time, local authorities do not rule out the possibility that further rainfall and rising water levels may necessitate new evacuation measures. The state of emergency allows for the more rapid mobilization of special services and resources to address the aftermath of the disaster, as well as to provide assistance to residents of the affected areas.

Currently, experts continue to monitor the situation and assess the extent of damage caused by the dam breach and heavy rains. This is reported by Russian media.

Retail gasoline prices at gas stations in Russia have risen to record levels

The shortage of automotive fuel, previously observed in the temporarily occupied Crimea, has begun to spread to the southern regions of the Russian Federation. Residents of the Krasnodar Krai and Rostov Oblast are reporting shortages of gasoline and diesel fuel.

In the temporarily occupied Sevastopol, restrictions on gasoline sales have been introduced due to fuel supply problems following strikes on Russian oil refineries. This was reported on May 22 by Russian Telegram channels.
