An explosion occurred at a gunpowder factory in Finland: one person was killed
An explosion occurred at the Nammo Vihtavuori gunpowder factory in Finland, killing one person and injuring another.
According to preliminary reports, the incident occurred while cutting a pipe that still contained traces of an explosive substance. The deceased and the injured were employees of a contractor carrying out modernization work at the facility.
The explosion occurred in a building with an area of approximately 1,000 square meters, which was previously used for the production of propellant based on nitroglycerin and nitrocellulose. At the time of the accident, the facility was not in operation, but renovation work was underway there.
The Finnish Accident Investigation Center and the Finnish Safety and Chemicals Agency are investigating the causes of the explosion. All modernization work at the facility has been suspended until the investigation is complete.
