G7 Summit Discusses Support for Ukraine, Iran, and the Strait of Hormuz – Macron
French President Emmanuel Macron outlined the key topics for the G7 summit, which begins on June 15 in Evian-les-Bains. According to him, the main items on the agenda include continued support for Ukraine and ways to end the war, the situation surrounding Iran, as well as maritime security and the opening of the Strait of Hormuz.
He noted that the main themes of this G7 summit will be global imbalances and international crises.
Macron noted: “We will certainly discuss Ukraine and welcome President Zelenskyy to reaffirm our support for Ukraine, its energy infrastructure, and its defense efforts. We will also work to create conditions for negotiations that could lead to a lasting peace.”
The second topic, according to the president, will be the situation surrounding Iran and the signing of an agreement between the U.S. and Tehran. Egypt, as well as Gulf countries, particularly Qatar and the United Arab Emirates, will join the discussion.
He also stated: “Our goal will be to assess the implications of this agreement, support Lebanon, ensure the long-term openness of the Strait of Hormuz, and facilitate an agreement on Iran’s nuclear and ballistic missile programs. We will also explore ways to diversify energy routes from this region to reduce our dependence.”
According to Macron, the discussions will focus on the impact of the Middle East crisis on economies.
He added: “Next, we will discuss global imbalances between the North and the South. We will discuss how to more effectively assist countries in the South by attracting more private investment, restoring solidarity mechanisms, and resolving issues that currently affect international trade. Significant expert work has already been done in this area. A few days ago, we also held in-depth consultations with India, China, and the G7 countries to advance this initiative.”

The French president also announced that the summit will adopt a series of documents on critical minerals and rare earth metals, international trade, public health, the fight against cancer, the Ebola virus, drug trafficking, and migration.
He concluded: “But the main goal lies elsewhere. We aim to reach new agreements, strengthen cooperation between G7 countries and our partners, develop joint solutions, reduce international tensions, and improve the state of our economies.”
