In eastern Turkey, three-meter-high snowdrifts are being cleared

In the high-altitude regions of Bingöl Province in eastern Turkey, work to clear snowdrifts is ongoing as of late May. In some areas, the snow is up to three meters deep, making it difficult for people to get around and for local services to operate. Rescue workers and municipal crews are clearing roads and public areas.

This was reported by TRT Haber.

“Special teams are battling snow that reaches up to 3 meters in some places in the last days of May to open the road to the village of Kushtepe,” the TV channel reports.

This year, snowfall in the area has been record-breaking.

The village of Kushtepe is located high in the mountains, and its residents live there for half the year, moving to settlements in the lowlands for the winter. Snow clearance operations are currently underway so that the residents of Kushtepe can return home.

Earlier, Istanbul Mayor Ekrem Imamoglu was sentenced to one year and eight months in prison for allegedly “threatening” the chief prosecutor of Istanbul.

In Istanbul, charges have been filed against Mayor Imamoglu carrying a potential sentence of 2,352 years in prison.
