Russia may expand restrictions on imports of products from Armenia

Russia may expand restrictions on imports of products from Armenia

Rosselkhoznadzor has reported alleged new violations in the supply of Armenian products, involving not only flowers but also vegetables, fruits, and seafood.

This was reported by the agency’s head, Sergey Dankvert.

According to him, the Russian side is currently conducting inspections of Armenian enterprises, after which it will decide on further restrictions.

Earlier, Rosselkhoznadzor reported 146 cases of allegedly dangerous insects and bacteria found in Armenian vegetables and fruits. Russia also claims that “counterfeit” rainbow trout was supplied from Armenia, which, according to the Russian side, could have been of European origin.

As of May 22, Russia has already banned the import of floral products from Armenia, citing the need to “protect phytosanitary well-being.”

The restrictions came amid political tensions between Moscow and Yerevan. Russian Security Council Secretary Sergei Shoigu had previously accused Armenia of “unfriendly actions,” specifically citing Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s participation in the European Political Community summit in Yerevan, the country’s accession to the International Criminal Court, and a shift in its approach to cooperation with Russian institutions.

Earlier, Pashinyan informed Putin that he would not attend the May 9 parade in Moscow.

Earlier, Armenia appealed to the EU to send a rapid response team to counter Russian influence.
