On a highway in Lithuania, a herd of horses ran away from their owner and frightened drivers
On the morning of September 2, on the Vilnius–Panevėžys highway in Lithuania, drivers were startled by a herd of horses running unaccompanied along the side of the road. The animals were near the village of Klevinai and were heading toward Ukmerge.
The first call to the police from drivers came in around 7:00 a.m. Eyewitnesses reported that about a dozen horses were near a section of the Vilnius–Panevėžys highway.
After that, several more drivers contacted law enforcement. They reported that the herd was continuing to move toward Ukmerge, posing a potential danger to traffic.
The Vilnius–Panevėžys highway is one of Lithuania’s main highways, connecting the country’s capital with Panevėžys via Ukmergė.
Later, police reported that the owner had caught up with the animals and regained control of them.
After that, the danger to road users had passed, and the situation on the highway was resolved.
It is currently unknown under what circumstances the horses escaped or exactly where they came from.
The incident did not result in any reports of traffic accidents or injuries.
