Rumen Radev's coalition won a landslide victory in the Bulgarian elections

In Bulgaria’s early parliamentary elections, the “Progressive Bulgaria” coalition, led by former President Rumen Radev, secured a decisive victory.

With 100% of the ballots counted, the political force received over 44% of the vote, allowing it to form a majority on its own in the new parliament.

These elections were the eighth in the last five years, underscoring the country’s prolonged political instability.

However, this time “Progressive Bulgaria” managed to mobilize a significant portion of the electorate, securing at least 129 seats out of 240 in the National Assembly.

Second place went to the GERB–SDS coalition with 13.38%, while third place was taken by the PP–DB bloc, which received 12.61% of the vote.

The DPS party (7.12%) and the pro-Russian political force “Revival,” which barely cleared the threshold with 4.25%, also entered parliament.

Radev expressed a critical stance on Europe’s current course, noting that the region has become “a victim of its own ambitions.”

His victory is causing concern in the international community, as the politician is known for his Euroscepticism and ambiguous statements regarding Ukraine’s territorial integrity.

As of Sunday evening, April 19, the Bulgarian Ministry of the Interior had already received 328 official reports of possible fraud during the National Assembly elections.

The parliamentary elections in Bulgaria on April 19 could lead to a change in the country’s political course and weaken European unity regarding support for Ukraine.
