The pro-Russian former president of Bulgaria commented on his election victory
Rumen Radev, leader of the newly formed "Progressive Bulgaria" party and former president of the country, thanked citizens for their support in the early parliamentary elections.
His political party achieved one of the highest results in modern Bulgarian history, garnering over 44% of the vote based on the results of most of the vote counts.
The politician’s statement appeared on his official Facebook page immediately after the Central Election Commission released its first official results.
Rumen Radev emphasized that such a level of trust indicates society’s readiness for radical changes in the state governance model.
“Progressive Bulgaria” has won decisively. This is a victory of hope over mistrust, of freedom over fear. Finally, it is a victory of morality,” the frontrunner declared.
According to him, voters consciously rejected the policies of the “old parties” and did not succumb to manipulation during the tense campaign.
These elections were the eighth in the last five years and took place against the backdrop of a prolonged political crisis.
Rumen Radev noted that the high voter turnout at the polls was a response to prolonged apathy, although the overall level of distrust in political institutions remains critical.
