Unidentified object explodes at Augsburg station, two people injured
An unidentified object exploded at the railway station in the German city of Augsburg on Wednesday morning. Two people sustained minor injuries as a result of the explosion, police said.
The explosion occurred in a passageway in the station building. Window panes were also damaged in the incident. Police arrived at the scene at around 5:00 a.m. local time and closed part of the station to conduct investigative measures.
Explosion circumstances being investigated
The causes and circumstances of the incident are currently unknown. According to Deutsche Welle English, citing Augsburger Allgemeine, officers from the State Criminal Police Office and a bomb disposal robot are at the scene.
Augsburg is a regional transport hub located approximately 55 kilometers west of Munich.

Disruption at energy facility near Cologne
Separately, police are investigating a disruption at a power plant in the city of Bergheim in western Germany, near Cologne. Several power lines failed there on Tuesday evening following a short circuit.
A police spokesperson said the investigation does not consider a technical malfunction to be the cause and is treating the incident as a deliberate criminal act. He provided no details about the damage or the actions of those potentially involved. There were no power supply disruptions in nearby areas.
This incident occurred after another one in the state of Brandenburg: on Tuesday morning, unidentified individuals tried to cause a short circuit on extra-high-voltage lines near the Jänschwalde coal-fired power plant. Police found explosive devices nearby and are investigating the event as possible sabotage.
