At a conference of psychiatrists in Russia, homosexuality was labeled a mental illness
At the 18th Congress of Russian Psychiatrists, Olga Bukhanovskaya, chief physician at the Phoenix Medical and Rehabilitation Research Center, claimed that homosexuality is allegedly a mental illness.

During her speech, Bukhanovskaya listed five so-called “transgender spectrum disorders,” which included homosexuality. She also included “fetishistic transvestism,” personality disorders, schizotypal disorder, and schizophrenia combined with “periodic effeminization” in this list.
In addition, she claimed there is an alleged “transgender epidemic” in Russia, which, according to her, is caused by “propaganda” and “trans-indoctrination.”
Meanwhile, the World Health Organization removed homosexuality from the list of mental disorders back in 1990. In 2022, the WHO also removed “transsexualism” from the classification of mental disorders.
