The Chief of the Romanian General Staff has been charged with corruption — Digi24

General Vlad Georgice, Chief of the Romanian General Staff, has been formally charged as part of a corruption investigation being conducted by the National Anti-Corruption Directorate (DNA). The details of the case are currently being clarified by investigators.

 

The agency officially confirmed the criminal proceedings against Georgice and reported that the DNA’s military division had filed charges against the general.

According to prosecutors, in July 2025, Georgice facilitated the signing by another high-ranking general of a request to the Ministry of Education regarding the creation of 20 additional state-funded spots at the National University of Physical Education and Sports for the subsequent employment of several trained specialists within the Ministry of Defense.

As a result, an additional 20 applicants were able to enroll on a state-funded basis, whereas they had initially been eligible only for contract-based enrollment. According to journalists, among them was the daughter of one of Georgice’s colleagues.

The general is accused of abuse of office. Georgice has been the Chief of the General Staff of Romania since late November 2023.

During the Russian strike on the Odesa region on April 25, Russian drones were moving along the border with Romania. British aircraft patrolling Romanian airspace tracked their routes. Later, drone debris was found in border areas of Romania.

The Romanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs summoned the Russian ambassador over the incident involving a drone crash near the city of Galați.
