Nauman Mahmood to head defense alliance secretariat in Riyadh — Dawn
Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced on September 23 the appointment of retired Lieutenant General Nauman Mahmood as the first secretary-general of the Makkah Joint Defense Agreement between Turkey, Saudi Arabia and Pakistan. He will head the general secretariat of this alliance, which is being established in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

According to Dawn, Pakistan’s foreign ministry released the statement on the appointment. The ministry said that the secretary-general will lead the alliance’s secretariat. Dawn’s report on the appointment is dated September 23, 2026.

Agreement of three countries
According to the caption of an archival Reuters photograph, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif signed the joint defense agreement in Mecca on August 7, 2026. The foreign and defense ministers of the three countries also attended the ceremony.
