Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda stated that he does not expect U.S. troops to be withdrawn from the country. According to him, despite U.S. President Donald Trump’s statements about possible consequences for countries that did not support Washington in the Middle East conflict, Lithuania should not face a reduction in the U.S. military presence.
This was reported by Delfi.
Nausėda emphasized that the presence of American soldiers, together with the armed forces of other European countries, will be the best deterrent.
"I have nothing new to say about the presence of American soldiers (in Lithuania) that hasn’t already been said many times. But in this case, no news is good news," the Lithuanian president told reporters on Wednesday.
"In principle, we believe that the U.S. presence here in Lithuania will continue. We are ready for very close cooperation with the U.S. administration and fully understand that the host country must also bear certain costs associated with their presence here. We are ready to do so. I mentioned this in my letter to the U.S. president," he emphasized.
